Labels for a healthy indoor climate
In order to highlight how Troldtekt benefits the indoor climate and makes it easier for clients and consultants to choose healthy materials for their projects, we have obtained approvals and certifications under a number of schemes.
Danish Indoor Climate Labelling
Troldtekt is certified to the best indoor climate categories by Danish Indoor Climate Labelling (Dansk Indeklima Mærkning). To qualify for the Danish indoor climate label, a product's off-gassing must decline within the first 60 days following installation. Troldtekt panels fulfil the requirements at the first measurement after 10 days. Ceiling products are also tested for the quantity of fibres and particles they emit. Troldtekt panels qualify for the best category, ‘low particle emissions’, i.e. less than 0.75 milligrams per square metre.
Danish Indoor Climate Labelling (Dansk Indeklima Mærkning)
The indoor climate is a combination of air, smell, sound, light, humidity, static electricity, design and colour. Danish Indoor Climate Labelling (DIM) is a voluntary labelling scheme for building materials and their impact on the indoor climate. The indoor climate certificate is common to Norway and Denmark and is recognised world-wide. For the indoor climate label to be granted, the product must meet certain requirements during its use, while the product’s impact on the indoor air quality is also considered. One factor is the content of chemical substances in the product, another is which substances are released from the product to the ambient air. A product certified and labelled under the indoor climate scheme has been subject to extensive testing, and comes with documentation that it only releases chemical substances to the air to a very low extent. Ceiling products are also tested for the release of fibres and particles.
Testing for degassing
All products are classified with a time value in days – the time value relevant for indoor climate. The time value is determined on the basis of the time that passes before the degassing ‘subsides’. The time value is determined through chemical analysis and sensory (smell) evaluation.
Troldtekt is classified with the time value 10 days, which is the best category.
Testing for particle release
In connection with indoor climate certification, ceiling products are also classified for particle release, determined through sedimentable dust consisting of particles and fibres during the early use of the product.
The release of particles and fibres from Troldtekt is classified as low, which is the best category.
Allergy Friendly Product Award
Troldtekt has been awarded the 'Allergy Friendly Product Award' by the British organisation Allergy UK as proof that Troldtekt panels do not contain allergens or harmful substances.
The Allergy Friendly Product Award is only given to products that can improve the health and well-being of asthma and allergy sufferers.
To qualify for the Allergy Friendly Product Award, the product must be examined and assessed by Allergy UK’s panel of advisers and experts.

M1 classification
Troldtekt is classified in the M1 category by the Finnish Indoor Air Association and the Building Information Foundation RTS. This building material classification system promotes the use of low-emission products and has three emission classes. Emission class M1 corresponds to the best quality and emission class M3 includes materials with the highest emission rates.
A product will receive the M1 classification provided that it meets specific requirements and has been tested by an independent laboratory. In addition to chemical tests, the products go through a sensory evaluation process by an Odour Council.
Troldtekt acoustic panels were awarded the M1 certificate which ensures that VOC and odorous results comply with a number of criteria.
The tests were carried out by the Danish Institute of technology where the following methods were used for testing: ISO 16000-9, ISO 16000-3 and Eurofins 4430.
Difference between M1 & the Indoor Climate Label
The primary difference between the M1 certificate and Indoor Climate Label is that the Indoor Climate Label measures the VOC emissions in one combined value for the VOC's whereas the M1 certification system measures the VOC emissions as separate values.
Cradle to Cradle
One of the five criteria in the international Cradle to Cradle design concept is material health. To achieve Cradle to Cradle certification, a product’s chemical content must be assessed using the so-called ABC-X method, after which a phase-out plan must be drawn up for undesirable chemical ingredients, the X substances.
Troldtekt ‘natural’ products contain no X-assessed materials. This applies to the whole series, including Troldtekt agro and the non-combustible variant, Troldtekt A2. Our standard paint contains some X-assessed substances, which we are phasing out in cooperation with our paint supplier. The entire Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool product series is certified in the silver category, both in natural and in the standard paint colours.
Der Blaue Engel
"Der Blaue Engel" is a voluntary and independent environmental certification.
The requirements set by the Blue Angel place a particular focus on examining the impact that products and services have on the environment: on the climate, resources, water, soil and air. These tests also focus on their impact on people.
Troldtekt is classified as "Emissionsarm".
Sundahus Environmental Material Data
Troldtekt acoustic panels are environmentally assessed by the Swedish Sundahus Environmental Material Data.
With a web-based database, Sundahus provides structured material data with the objective to phase out hazardous substances in a building's lifecycle. The database contains thousands of environmentally assessed products. The assessments are based upon the different product characteristics and divided into the following classes: A, B, C+, C- and D.
Troldtekt acoustic panels are categorized in the database class A containing products with minimum impact on health and the environment.
