How to store Troldtekt® acoustic panels before installation
Here you will find practical instructions on how to store and acclimatise Troldtekt acoustic panels correctly, so that you get a beautiful and durable result.
Check the panels upon receipt
On receipt, check that the number of panels is correct and that the panels do not have visible defects or non-conformities. Submit a complaint immediately if the panels have defects. Troldtekt does not accept claims for visible defects and deficiencies made after the panels have been installed.
Ensure proper storage
We recommend that you store Troldtekt acoustic panels indoors. Remove any packaging, otherwise condensation can form under the packaging – causing the panels to become damp.
Ensure that the Troldtekt panels are dry and not exposed to direct sunlight through windows. Avoid drying them with a heat gun, for example, as this can warp them.
We do not recommend storing the panels outdoors, as weather conditions can affect the panels. If outdoor storage is necessary nonetheless, you should protect the panels with a tarpaulin or similar so that they are not exposed to rain or other forms of moisture. Ensure that periods of outdoor storage are as brief as possible. Troldtekt accepts no liability for damage to the panels that occurs as a result of outdoor storage.
Support the panels before installation
Place the Troldtekt panels in a horizontal position with good support. For example, on pallets or battens.
Acclimatise the panels as needed
If you store the Troldtekt panels in a dry environment after delivery, they can be installed without prior acclimatisation. However, minor shrinkage cracks may occur at the joints.
For the best aesthetic result, we recommend ’battening’ the panels – i.e. placing battens between them and allowing them to acclimatise indoors for 7 days before installation.
If the panels are stored without battens between them, the acclimatisation period should be extended to 14 days.
During acclimatisation, the panels adapt to the temperature and humidity of the room. Ensure that the space is well ventilated.
Troldtekt panels should also be acclimatised when installed in humid rooms or outdoors.
Important information about cement-bonded wood wool
- Troldtekt cement-bonded wood wool consists of cement and wood. Wood is a natural material that absorbs and releases moisture throughout its service life, so swelling and shrinkage cannot be completely prevented. Troldtekt acoustic panels are dried during manufacture and therefore have a significantly lower moisture content than comparable panel materials.
- Wood reacts to changes in air humidity – even when combined with inorganic binders (e.g. cement). Consider this prior to installation, as with wooden floors/parquet.
- Installing damp panels can lead to shrinkage as they dry, potentially causing shrinkage cracks. Follow the storage instructions carefully.
- If panels absorb moisture after installation, they will expand against each other, with no risk of pushing against other parts of the building.
- Panel dimensions and weight remain within stated tolerances at 23°C ± 2°C and 50% ± 5% relative humidity.
- Do not install the panels until the building is fully enclosed and heating is switched on.
